Evaluation Question 2
I think that my magazine advert, digipack and final music video all link and work well together. The digipack and magazine advert use the same fonts and colour schemes to show they are promoting the same album. The music video perhaps doesn’t link to the ancillary texts as well as I’d have hoped however I think they make it clear they are part of the same genre and the main band member is seen in the video. We used black and white in the video to portray memories and I used black and white photos in my ancillary texts and this also shows a link and helps to create a sense of branding.
The digipack isn’t as professional looking as I had originally hoped for. However, I am pleased with the overall outcome of it as I think it fits well with the genre of our band and the music style we envisaged them to have. The colours I used work well together in my opinion and they also link back to the magazine advert. I decided to use bold and plain fonts and colours as I thought it would make the digipack stand out on a shelf whilst still not looking too busy. I decided to use pictures of the whole band on my digipack, (as opposed to just the lead singer, as we did in the video), because the band would be in rest of the music video and we did use all of them in our draft; it was a last minute decision to only use the main singer. I like the pictures on the digipack however I think they could have done with being reshot as some of them weren’t quite right or how I wanted them to look.
I have similar opinions of my magazine advert as I do to my digipack. This is because I think they look good together and it is immediately obvious that they are linked with the same band and promoting the same album. As mentioned in question 1, I based my magazine advert on one by Plan B. I think I replicated parts of it well, for example the colour schemes and font. However the image used on that one was more powerful and blended in more easily. After creating my magazine advert, I them did my digipack based on the ideas I used for it, this helped me to ensure that they would be linked and created a sense of ‘branding’.
In terms of the final music video, I am very pleased with our efforts and think we improved a lot since our draft version. Unfortunately, parts of it still weren’t perfect and we would have liked to have reshot a few scenes however we didn’t have another opportunity to get all of the cast members together again before the deadline. The memory scenes link to the ancillary texts through the use of black and white. The video shows links to the magazine advert and digipack as we used the same lead singer and the tone and genre of the video showed similarities.
Overall, I think the digipack and magazine advert are effective as a combination for the band JetPack Mockery. I think there a few links between the video and the ancillary texts however they aren’t as prominent as they could have been. I think a sense of branding has been creating but it could have perhaps been done even more so.
