Applying Theories to our Music Video

Claude Levi-Strauss' theory of binary opposites is mildly applied to our video in regards to him looking back. The place he is in now is much happier ie. with his friends and band members, as opposed to his childhood which we see in the flashback scenes where he is seen to have unhappier times.

Vladimir Propp's theory of character roles also sort of applies to our video. The lead singer is the 'hero' in a sense as the story is based around him, whilst his band members are his 'helpers' as they give him a place of space and happiness where he can reflect and be himself. Whilst the parents are in some ways the 'villains' as they create a sense of unhappiness in the 'hero's' life.

Tzvetan Todorov's theory that every story has an equilibrium that is disturbed and is then restored through a 3 part narrative structure. In our video the equilibrium will be him telling the story of his life, the disruption of the equilibrium will be when we see the flashbacks of him as a child when he is unhappy and the restoration of the equilibrium will be when we see his with his friends and band members.
